Volyn Eparchy bids farewell to fallen soldier, son of UOC priest
Archbishop Athanasiy of Kamin-Kashyrskyi officiated at the funeral of Archpriest Feodor Sihnaievskyi’s son, who was killed in the war.
A funeral service was held in the village of Beresk, Volyn Region, for Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier Viktor Sihnaievskyi, the 21-year-old son of Archpriest Feodor Sihnaievskyi, a priest of the UOC's Volyn Eparchy, the eparchy reports.
Viktor enlisted under contract in May 2025 and was listed as missing for an extended period. It was later confirmed that he had been killed on January 27, 2026 – his 21st birthday – when a Russian drone struck a train in Kharkiv Region as he was returning from leave.
A memorial prayer service was first held at the fallen soldier's home. His body was then taken to the local Dormition Church, where the Divine Liturgy and funeral service were celebrated.
With the blessing of Metropolitan Nafanail of Volyn and Lutsk, Archbishop Athanasiy of Kamin-Kashyrskyi, vicar of the eparchy, officiated at the funeral service in the Dormition Church, assisted by local clergy.
Following the service, the funeral procession traveled to a memorial honoring fallen local soldiers in the village of Dorosyno. After a farewell ceremony at the memorial, Viktor was laid to rest at the cemetery in the village of Rudka-Kozynska.
Archbishop Athanasiy conveyed condolences from the ruling hierarch to the fallen soldier's father and his entire family.
As the UOJ previously reported, a UOC priest killed in the war was laid to rest in Kovel.
