UOC pilgrims join cross procession with St. Spyridon’s relics on Corfu
UOC pilgrims attended a concelebrated hierarchical Divine Liturgy and a religious procession in the Greek city of Kerkyra.
Pilgrims from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church took part in a solemn procession carrying the relics of St. Spyridon of Trimythous through the historic streets of Kerkyra on the Greek island of Corfu, according to a Facebook post by faithful of the UOC’s Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Eparchy.
The UOC pilgrims, led by Archpriest Andrii Serman, also attended a concelebrated hierarchical Divine Liturgy.
Four times a year, Corfu holds traditional religious processions known as litanies, during which the reliquary containing the saint’s relics is carried upright. The processions bring together clergy, government officials, choirs, and philharmonic orchestras to commemorate St. Spyridon’s miraculous intercession and the islanders’ deliverance from famine, plague, and a Turkish siege.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that hierarchs of the UOC and the Church of Greece had consecrated a church dedicated to the Saints of the Kyiv Caves on Corfu.
