The UOC has launched an interactive 3D reconstruction of the demolished Tithe Church, allowing visitors to see what the destroyed shrine once looked like.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church has created an interactive 3D reconstruction of the Church of Saints Equal-to-the-Apostles Vladimir and Olga at the Tithe [Desiatynnyi] Monastery of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Kyiv. The project aims to preserve the memory of the church and allow anyone to see the demolished building as it once stood.

Users can now explore the church's architectural details on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. They can also project a virtual model of the building into their own homes – onto a table or floor, for example.

Researchers in the Rivne region have digitized 26 historic churches to preserve their authentic appearance.

The project's main feature allows visitors to go to the site of the demolished church in Kyiv and use augmented reality (AR) technology to view a virtual reconstruction through their smartphone cameras. Users can walk around the virtual building and see what the church looked like before its demolition.

The Church of Saints Equal-to-the-Apostles Vladimir and Olga at Kyiv's Tithe Monastery was demolished by security forces overnight on May 17, 2024. At approximately 10:30 p.m., the church grounds were cordoned off, and neither the monks nor the faithful were allowed to approach the building. Heavy equipment, including bulldozers and trucks, was soon brought to the site. By 12:20 a.m., debris from the demolished church was already being hauled away.

As the UOJ previously reported, authorities in Ivano-Frankivsk are developing a public park on the site of another demolished UOC church.
