Ukrainian faces life sentence in Poland for murder of Catholic priest
A Ukrainian citizen faces life imprisonment for a knife attack at a convent in Jarosław, Poland, that left a Roman Catholic priest dead and four others injured.
In Poland, a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen identified as Ihor M. faces life imprisonment for murdering a Catholic priest and stabbing four other people at a Benedictine convent in Jarosław, RMF24 reports.
The Przemyśl District Prosecutor's Office has reclassified the case and filed five separate criminal charges against the suspect. The man fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse but declined to provide detailed testimony.
Due to acute psychotic disorders, the Ukrainian national was placed in a psychiatric hospital under heightened security.
The attack took place on September 24 on the grounds of the convent. Armed with a knife, Ihor M. fatally wounded Roman Catholic priest Stanisław Zbojnowicz and seriously injured two other priests and two laypeople.
As the UOJ previously reported, the killing of the Catholic priest by a Ukrainian national was mentioned in a report by the Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination Against Christians in Europe (OIDAC).
