US State Department criticizes Ukrainian authorities for violating religious freedoms

The US State Department has criticized Ukraine for violating religious freedoms in its annual report on religious freedom in the world, reports RIA Novosti.

According to the US foreign ministry, "the local authorities from time to time provide support to the UOC-KP, trying to gain control of the UOC-MP churches. The Government has established a working group to mediate between the two religious groups," – said in the report of the US State Department.

Recall that last year the US drew attention to the fact that the situation with respect for freedom of religion in Ukraine worsened in 2014: disagreements between believers of the UOC-KP and the UOC frequented, minor religious communities were subjected to harassment, serious violations were found on the uncontrolled by Kiev territory of Donbass.
