In Oxford, Ukrainian scientists speak about the ancient Russian monasticism on Athos
At the Oxford Orthodox centre in St. Gregory's House the International Institute of the Athonite Legacy in Ukraine (IIALU), together with the Oxford University Orthodox Christian Student Society, held a spiritual and educational evening on the theme: "In the Garden of the Blessed Virgin. Russia and Athos: 1000 years of spiritual unity".
The event was dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of the ancient Russian monasticism on Athos. During the evening the audience was addressed by Sergey Shumilo, the director of the IIALU, who spoke about the millennium-old ties between Kievan Rus and Athos and presented the publishing projects of the UOC and the IIALU dedicated to the Athonite heritage.
During the conference, the documentary "A Thousand Years on Athos" was shown, produced by the Ukrainian television channel "Inter" together with the International Institute of Athonite Legacy in Ukraine.
With the blessing of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine, in various cities of Europe, the IIALU holds spiritual and educational events dedicated to the 1000th anniversary of the ancient Russian monasticism on Athos.
