Petro Poroshenko and Patriarch Bartholomew have signed a cooperation agreement
On November 3, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, following the meeting in Istanbul, signed an agreement on cooperation and interaction between Ukraine and the Patriarchate of Constantinople, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“The agreement that we signed today completes this process ... creates all conditions for the process of granting or rather preparation for the Council, the process of granting the Tomos to be carried out absolutely in strict accordance with the canons of the Orthodox Church,” the head of state told journalists after the meeting with Patriarch Bartholomew in Istanbul.
After signing the agreement, Patriarch Bartholomew said: "I am sure that the decision on autocephaly will lead to the unity and unification of all Orthodox in Ukraine."
As the UOJ reported, earlier the head of the Legal Department of the UOC Protopriest Alexander Bakhov said that the authorities want not only to create the Single Local Church but also to destroy the UOC.
