Italian Ambassador to Ukraine Thanks UOC for Cathedral Restoration in Odesa

At the reception for Republic Day in Kyiv, diplomat Carlo Formosa noted the Church's contribution to the restoration of the Transfiguration Cathedral.

By the blessing of Metropolitan Agafangel and by invitation of Ambassador Carlo Formoza, Archpriest Miroslav Vdovich, assistant rector of the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral, participated in official events marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Italian Republic, held in Kiev. This was reported by the press service of the Odessa Diocese.

The celebrations brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps, state institutions, political, cultural and public circles of Ukraine and the international community.

During the meeting, the priest conveyed greetings and blessing from Metropolitan Agafangel to the Ambassador. In response, Carlo Formoza expressed sincere gratitude to His Grace for many years of cooperation and significant contribution to the restoration of the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral.

As SPJ wrote, on July 23, 2023, the Transfiguration Cathedral of the UOC in Odessa was destroyed as a result of a Russian missile strike. Italy and Ukraine signed an agreement on the restoration of the UOC cathedral.
