The criminals set fire to the temple and left the inscription "14/88"
The case was initiated under the article "intentional destruction or damage to property", as reported on the Facebook page of the Krivoy Rog Department of the National Police.
“The police initiated a pre-trial investigation on an attempt of arson of the church door under Article 194/2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional destruction or damage to property). The incident happened on February 15 in the territory of Ingulets district, Krivoy Rog. At present law enforcers are investigating all the circumstances of the case,” the statement reads.
As the UOJ reported, on February 15, 2019, on the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, the attackers set fire to the UOC temple, desecrating its walls with Nazi inscriptions. The criminals committed an arson attack with flame liquid, which led to serious damage to the central entrance door and the icon of the Ascension of the Lord. The vandals left the inscription "14/88", which is directly relevant to the slogans of the radical Nazi movements.
The Ascension Church was built in 1876.
