UOC chancellor meets with Patriarch of Georgian Orthodox Church

During the meeting, the clergy of the canonical Church of Ukraine spoke about the religious situation in Ukraine

On February 20, 2019, the UOC chancellor, Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich) of Borispol and Brovary, discussed with His Beatitude Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia and the hierarchs of the Georgian Orthodox Church the current events in the church life of Ukraine and the situation in world Orthodoxy, reports the UOC Information and Education Department.

The deputy head of the UOC DECR Protopriest Nikolai Danilevich, together with the UOC chancellor, also arrived at the residence of Patriarch Ilia II in Tbilisi and took part in the discussion of the religious situation.

On January 30, 2019, a delegation of the Constantinople Patriarchate met with the Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia and members of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church. However, this meeting did not change the position of the Georgian Church regarding the recognition of the OCU. According to the locum tenens of the Patriarchal throne, Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri) of Senaki and Chkhorots'q'u, the Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church will discuss the Ukrainian issue in the spring. Until the next meeting of the Synod, the Patriarchate of Georgia will not have taken any decisions.
