On May 21, 2019, the Primate of the Cyprus Orthodox Church, Archbishop Chrysostomos II, and the Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church, Archbishop ‎Ieronymos II, discussed the “Ukrainian church issue”, reports the Greek news agency “Romfea.gr”.

Primates of the Cyprus and Greek Churches discussed the religious conflict in Ukraine for more than 2 hours. During the conversation, Archbishop Chrysostomos II informed Archbishop ‎Ieronymos II about the results of the meetings with the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Irinej of Serbia and the Primate of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church Patriarch Neophytos.

“We must be careful not to make a mistake for the Church because it is a sin before God! That is why the guiding principle of our actions should be the careful observance of the interests of the Church,” emphasized Archbishop Chrysostomos II.

He noted that the Church has several questions and problems that need to be resolved "with courage and optimism".

The head of the Orthodox Church of Greece agreed with his concerns and reasonings.

“We all need to look at the problem seriously and responsibly,” noted Archbishop Ieronymos II.

He urged not to maintain personal interests but to observe the interests of the Church and take care of its unity.

We are human beings and make mistakes, but by the grace of God, we must overcome them, concluded the Primate of the Church of Greece.

On May 17, 2019, the Primate of the Cyprus Orthodox Church met with Patriarch Irinej of Serbia in Belgrade, and on May 20, 2019, Archbishop Chrysostom II also met with the Primate of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Neophytos.

Next, the Primate of the Cyprus Church plans to meet with the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, and suggests him a plan for solving the “Ukrainian church problem”.
