Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou, the hierarch of the Cypriot Orthodox Church, confirmed that the Church of Cyprus considers Metropolitan Onuphry to be the canonical Metropolitan of Ukraine at the Fifth Spiritual Dialogue held on November 26, 2019, in the Akakios Primary School Multipurpose Room.
“As the Church of Cyprus, we do not recognize Epiphany and the decision made by the Ecumenical Patriarch, as well as by the Church of Greece and the Patriarch of Alexandria,” said the Metropolitan. “We have not done this and I will not do it,” reports “Romfea”.
The hierarch noted that each Local Church is represented by its canonical Metropolitan. “Here in Morphou is Morphou Neophytos. Here in Tamasos is Tamasou Isaiah. In Constantia there is Constantine Basil."
“Who have we known for so many years as the canonical bishop of Kiev? Metropolitan Onuphry. He remains the canonical Metropolitan of Ukraine,” said the hierarch of the Church of Cyprus.
At the end of his speech, the hierarch said that in order to clarify the situation in Ukraine, it is necessary to convene the Pan-Orthodox Council.
As reported by the UOJ, Metropolitan Nikiforos of the Cypriot Orthodox Church considers the actions of the Patriarch of Constantinople to be non-canonical.
