“But for Petro Poroshenko, the Council would not have gathered,” said the spokesperson for the OCU Eustraty Zoria about the details of holding the “Unification Council” in an interview with Sonya Koshkina, published on the “LBTV” YouTube channel.
According to the representative of the OCU, the role of the former president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in holding the “Unification Council”, which created the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, was huge.
“If we talk about the role of Petro Poroshenko, I will say the following: his diplomatic talent, his feeling – they made it possible, in the end, to solve insoluble problems,” said Zoria.
He also noted that during a week before the “Council”, the exarchs of the Patriarchate of Constantinople tried several times to leave Ukraine, and only due to Poroshenko’s efforts they stayed in the country.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote about the video with Petro Poroshenko, in which he stated that the ROC in Ukraine is a tool of Russia's geopolitical influence, and the Ukrainians received Tomos because they did care what Church was in the state.
We recall that in 2018 Poroshenko said that the UOC would no longer have “fluffy fingers”. He later promised that there would be no state church in the country. But in the summer of 2019, he announced that the principle of state non-interference in the affairs of the Church, enshrined in the Constitution of Ukraine, was only a beautiful theory.
