On April 14, 2020, the Primate of the UOC, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine addressed the flock and told the believers how they should celebrate the Resurrection of Christ under quarantine. The Primate’s video message was published by the UOC Information and Education Department.
"This year we have a special holiday of Holy Easter because of a viral disease that is spreading around the globe. Therefore, I inform you, dear brothers and sisters, that Easter services will be held in churches," said Metropolitan Onuphry.
He addressed those who are ill with words of comfort and support.
"You won’t be left out. You will be able to see the Easter service on television. Thanks to the authorities who are ready to help us out, the Easter service will be broadcasted on “Ukraina” and “Inter” TV channels," the Archpastor said.
Metropolitan Onuphry blessed the believers who will attend temples to stand and pray on the street, observing all sanitary requirements.
"Wherever you are on Easter night, we can all unite in prayer and together glorify Christ the Life-Giver Risen from the dead. May the Lord bless us all," concluded Metropolitan Onuphry.
Easter services are also not cancelled in the churches of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and Belarus, where President Alexander Lukashenko said that he himself intended to go to church on Easter Day.
