On January 3, 2023, the Hungarian Parliament passed legislation banning LGBT propaganda in schools, CNN reports. The law was approved by an overwhelming majority, with Hungary's left-wing opposition parties boycotting the vote.
Under amendments to the bill last week, people under the age of 18 cannot be shown content that encourages gender reassignment or homosexuality. This also applies to advertising. The law establishes a list of organizations allowed to conduct sex education classes in schools.
Hungary does not recognize same-sex marriages and only heterosexual couples are allowed to adopt children. The Orbán government enshrined in the Constitution the definition of marriage as a union between one man and one woman.
As the UOJ wrote, the European Commission sued Hungary over the ban on LGBT propaganda among children.
