Sts. Martha and Mary Convent gives aid to fire victims in Zhytomyr region

On April 28, 2020, with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, the sisters of mercy of the Sts. Martha and Mary Convent in Kyiv delivered humanitarian aid to the residents of the village of Lichmany of the Ovruch district, Zhytomyr region, who suffered from the fire, reports the UOC Information and Education Department.
Before the trip, the sisters themselves contacted the locals to find out what they most need now.
Fire victims were brought 10 bicycles, 50 grocery sets, 3 boxes of stewed meat, household chemicals, tools (shovels, saws, rakes, hammers), nails, etc. Also, the villages were given 100 Easter cakes from the Vadim Novinsky International Charitable Foundation of the Protection of the Mother of God.
“The sisters talked with people about the Risen Christ, distributed prayer books, Gospels. People thanked the Primate, guests and all concerned people for their support in difficult times,” reports the UOC Information and Education Department.
We recall that the fires in the Zhytomyr region began on April 16, 2020. During this time, about 4 thousand hectares of forest burned, the fire destroyed and damaged 38 residential and 43 non-residential buildings. According to preliminary estimates, the damage caused by the fire is about UAH 25 million.
The Ovruch Eparchy of the UOC, the volunteer movement “Youth is not indifferent”, operating at the Holy Trinity Jonah Monastery, and the community of the Holy Ascension Church in Demiivka also provide all possible assistance to the fire victims of the Zhytomyr region.
