On May 2, 2020, Catholic Cardinal Robert Sarah, the prefect of the Congregation for Divine Services and Discipline of the Sacraments, criticized restrictions on religious life under quarantine due to the coronavirus. This is reported by DW.

“No one has the right to forbid a priest to perform the Holy Communion or receive somebody’s confession,” said Cardinal Sarah.

At the same time, he spoke negatively about the services broadcast on the Internet, saying that “it takes the priests along the wrong path,” because they should “look at God, not the camera.”

He called the idea of sealing pieces of the Host (Eucharistic bread personifying the Body of Christ in the Catholic Sacrament of Communion) in sachets for the sake of hygiene measures “absolutely inappropriate”. “The sacrament is a gift we receive from God, and we should receive it with dignity. We are not in a supermarket,” said the cardinal, calling this performance “total insanity” and absurdity.

As reported by the UOJ, earlier the known preacher, ROC cleric Archpriest Andrei Tkachev, explained why the idea of the Ukrainian authorities' Easter Home project for the prevention of coronavirus could lead to the end of Christianity.
