The Head of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Synodal Department for Relations between the Church and Society and the Media Vladimir Legoyda commented on the actions of the OCU activists in the village of Zadubrivka in the Chernivtsi Region on his Telegram channel.

“No coronavirus is a hindrance to Ukrainian schismatics. On May 4, in the village of Zadubrivka (Chernivtsi region), nationalists from the OCU, having learned about the death of the rector of the UOC temple of the Archangel Michael, made a raider seizure attempt,” wrote Legoyda.

He told his subscribers that the followers of the church structure led by Epiphany Dumenko came to the temple with a grinder, generator and tear gas. They injured one of the parishioners of the canonical Church with a knife in the head and calmed down only thanks to the police that arrived at the scene.

“It is amazing that in a situation where it would seem that the country's citizens should unite to fight the epidemic, people who call themselves Christians attack the believers and dance on the bones, taking advantage of the death of the rector,” the spokesman said.

Legoyda expressed the hope that the Ukrainian authorities will ensure a bona fide investigation into the flagrant incident.

On May 5, 2020, the National Police of Ukraine opened a criminal investigation into the conflict in Zadubrivka.
