On May 20, 2020, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky reiterated that a large mosque for Crimean Tatars would be built in Kiev. He made such a statement during a press conference following the results of the first year of his presidency; the event was broadcast live on the Presidential Office’s YouTube channel.

“The land was found in Kiev, because there is a project. We are waiting for the architectural design from the Crimean Tatars. They have it, we learnt about it at the last meeting. A large mosque is going to be constructed,” Zelensky said.

He also recalled the construction of 500 apartments in the Kherson Region for the Crimean Tatars, for which they had already allocated the land.

The Head of State also announced his intention to introduce amendments to the Constitution and legislation of Ukraine, which are supposed to support the population of the Crimea.

Zelensky said earlier that he would make Islamic holidays public.
