Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmila Denisova demanded that the Commissioner for Children's Rights, Nikolai Kuleba, apologize to the LGBT community for his Facebook post in which he called gay couples one of the risk factors for surrogacy. About this writes "Ukrainian Pravda".
The press service of the Ombudsman Office for Human Rights published the following message: “The Commissioner submitted a statement to the Ombudsman of the President of Ukraine for Children’s Rights, Nikolai Kuleba, demanding a public apology regarding the dissemination of hate speech against representatives of the LGBT community and to continue to comply with the requirements of anti-discrimination legislation.”
According to the Commissioner, the statement of the Children's Ombudsman regarding representatives of the LGBT community constitutes discrimination against LGBT people and “violates their right for respect of honor and dignity.”
On May 28, Nikolai Kuleba posted a message on Facebook reflecting on the risks of surrogate motherhood and noting, in particular, “There are cases when families are fictitious, and ‘spouses’ may turn out to be homosexual couples and rapists.”
Later Kuleba updated his post explaining that in terms of surrogacy, he was concerned about possible violations of the law, as well as violations due to manipulation and abuse of children's rights.
The Alliance Global global non-governmental organization appealed to Human Rights Commissioner Liudmila Denisova, as well as to President Vladimir Zelensky, with a request to check Nikolai Kuleba’s message for discrimination and incitement to hatred based on sexual orientation.
As reported by the UOJ, earlier the UN called on Ukraine to create a society free of gender-based violence.
