On March 31, 2023, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra filed a lawsuit alleging incitement of religious hatred by Evgen Karas, reports Lavra's lawyer, priest Nikita Chekman.
The Lavra reported that calls from activists with radical views are actively spreading on social networks, which can be interpreted as calls for organizing mass riots and creating provocations to discredit the clergy of the UOC.
In this regard, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra sent a statement to the Pechersk Police Department in Kyiv about the commission of criminal offences by one of the activists, Evgen Karas.
Karas is the owner of the Evgen Karas ✙ telegram channel (https://t.me/KARAS_EVGEN).
Lavra officials believe that with their messages, Karas "incites religious hatred and organizes mass riots". The person's messages also contain "public calls to commit acts that threaten public order".
“We hope for a response from law enforcement agencies to the pre-trial investigation and ask everyone to refrain from illegal actions against the clergy and parishioners of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church,” the Lavra said in a statement.
As reported, Evgen Karas gave secret instructions on organizing provocations in the Lavra.
