The SBU stated it had collected a “substantiated evidence base” about the involvement of the abbot of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed), in inciting religious hatred, justifying and denying Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.

The press service of the department notes that Vladyka Pavel, in his public speeches, repeatedly insulted the religious feelings of Ukrainians, humiliated the views of believers of other faiths and tried to arouse hostile moods towards them.

“The law and responsibility for its violation are the same for everyone, and a cassock is not always a pledge of pure intentions. Today, the enemy is trying to use the church environment to promote its propaganda and split the Ukrainian society. But we won't give him a single chance! The SBU systematically blocks all attempts by Russian special services that seek to use their agents to harm the interests and security of Ukraine,” says the head of the SBU, Vasyl Malyuk.

Recall that the SBU officers reported the suspicion to Metropolitan Pavel on the morning of April 1, 2023.
