On June 13, 2023, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople stated that any attempt to question the Tomos of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine introduces a new ecclesiology.

In his speech at the opening of an inter-Orthodox Scientific Conference on the theme "The Contribution of Halki Professors and Graduates to Orthodox Relations," Patriarch Bartholomew said that "any attempt to challenge Ukrainian Autocephaly introduces an unacceptable 'new ecclesiology'."

Furthermore, in his opinion, such attempts "undermine the Orthodox peace and hinder cooperation and the common witness of the Orthodox Churches."

Earlier, Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus said the recognition of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine by Patriarch Bartholomew has brought an unprecedented crisis to Orthodoxy.
