European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen believes that the creation of LGBT-free zones is unacceptable in the EU. She said this on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, during her annual keynote speech before the European Parliament, reports Reuters.

The European Commission Chief Executive criticized Poland's policy towards LGBT people, where cities that called themselves an "LGBT-free zone" lost EU funding because of this.

“LGBTQI-free zones are humanity free zones. And they have no place in our (European) Union,” stressed Ursula von der Leyen.

Von der Leyen said the bloc’s executive will soon present “a strategy to strengthen LGBTQI rights” in the bloc, as well as pushing for mutual recognition of family relations in the EU.

As reported, earlier the Minister of Justice of Poland Zbigniew Ziobro said that the LGBT ideology contradicts Polish culture, traditions and legislation, and a town that had lost EU funding after dubbing itself a zone free of “LGBT ideology” would receive government financial support.
