On July 14, 2023, the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada supported the draft law on amending the Code of Labor Laws, which excluded Christmas on January 7 from the list of holidays and non-working days. This is reported by the Politika Strany Telegram channel.
According to the new law, the official date for celebrating Christmas and a day off will be only December 25th.
The Verkhovna Rada also changed the dates of two more public holidays linked to the church calendar: the Day of Ukrainian Statehood was moved from July 28 to July 15, and the Day of Defenders of Ukraine – from October 14 to October 1.
The changes will take effect on September 1, 2023.
As reported by the UOJ, President Volodymyr Zelensky submitted a bill to cancel the celebration of the Nativity of Christ on January 7 to parliament.
Earlier, Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko said that due to the transition of the OCU and the UGCC to a new calendar style, it is necessary to postpone public holidays.
