On July 20, 2023, Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko submitted a letter of resignation to the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, as reported on Tkachenko’s Telegram channel.

According to the head of the Ministry of Culture, he had to write the letter over "a wave of misunderstanding about the importance of culture during the war".

He also mentioned that he was surprised by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's statement, in which he requested the head of the Cabinet to consider the issue of his replacement.

Commenting on the reason for his resignation, Tkachenko once again emphasized the "importance of private and budgetary funds allocated for culture during the war".

As reported, Ukrainian Member of Parliament Artem Dmytruk stated that Minister Tkachenko should leave his post, and his actions regarding the Lavra demonstrate incompetence and barbarism.
