On August 13, 2023, the parishioners of the Lavra’s Church of the Life-Giving Spring Icon had to confess and receive communion through the barred gate, reports a UOJ correspondent.

Due to the authorities blocking the Lower Lavra, the community of the Church of the Life-bearing Spring was unable to attend either the All-Night Vigil on 12 August or the Liturgy on 13 August.

The church itself is located right at the lower entrance to the Lower Lavra, which is closed by a gate with bars. Priests listened to confessions and administered communion from one side of the gate, while worshipers stood on the street side.

It's worth noting that there have been several occasions in the Lavra when parishioners were not allowed into the churches, and priests had to give them communion through a barrier.

As earlier reported, the Lavra's faithful received communion through the barred gate on Bright Friday.
