On August 31, 2023, the head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), Epifaniy Dumenko, and "Archbishop" Evstratiy Zoria arrived at the Phanar, where they were invited for a discussion with Patriarch Bartholomew and Metropolitan of Chalcedon Emmanuel, as reported by the OCU website.
The press service's statement indicates that they discussed a "wide range of issues related to Ukraine." Additionally, Dumenko presented Patriarch Bartholomew with a collection of documents from the "Unification Council," a calendar for 2023/2024, a panagia, and delivered a letter from the OCU council.
Previously, the UOJ wrote that Dumenko likened the UOC to Islamists and called on the authorities to ban it.
