On November 25, 2020, the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus, by a majority vote, supported the decision of Archbishop Chrysostomos to commemorate Epiphany Dumenko, reports the official website of the Church of Cyprus.
As announced by the press service of the Church of Cyprus, during two sessions of the Synod, held on November 23 and 25, 2020, the hierarchs "discussed in detail the Ukrainian Church issue and the problematic situation that arose with the commemoration Epiphany as primate of the Church of Ukraine by His Beatitude Archbishop Chrysostomos, and decided not to oppose this decision of His Beatitude".
In this regard, the Synod of the Church of Cyprus ruled that it "does not oppose the decision of his Beatitude" Archbishop Chrysostomos.
At the same time, the Holy Synod "hopes for wider consultations, in which all (Local Churches – Ed.) will take part, to get through the current crisis that threatens to split the Church of Christ".
Metropolitan Nikiforos of Kykkos said that during the Synod there were “differences of opinion”, and the final result was 10 to 7 (with one abstaining).
As reported earlier, the Primate of the Church of Cyprus commemorated Epiphany (Dumenko), the head of the OCU.
