The chief EU diplomat Josep Borrel arrived in Odesa with an unannounced visit. In his tweet (X), he said that Odesa is a beautiful historical city that should figure in the headlines due to its vibrant culture, beauty and history. However, Borrell noted, Odesa appears in the news "as a frequent target of Putin's war destroying port infrastructure and ancient temples".

According to him, the Transfiguration Cathedral is a vivid example of such activities of the Russian Federation.

Borrel also said that the EU supports the stabilisation of sites affected by Russia's "barbaric destruction".

As earlier reported, a UNESCO mission arrived in Odesa to assess the damage to the cathedral of the UOC.
