On December 9, 2020, during a regular meeting, members of the Holy Synod of the UOC noted that Patriarch Bartholomew’s rhetoric regarding the status of the UOC threatens the religious peace in Ukraine, the Information and Education Department of the UOC reports.
The members of the Synod stated that the narrative of the head of Phanar threatens the preservation of religious peace in Ukraine and deepens the crisis in World Orthodoxy.
The Synod reiterated that the actions of the Patriarchate of Constantinople to legalize Ukrainian schismatics and attempts to pass them off as the canonical Church were illegal and anti-canonical.
During the synodal meeting it was said that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church descends from the Kyiv Metropolis, which was established in 988, while the "UAOC" and "UOC-KP", on the basis of which the "OCU" appeared, are newly created structures which broke away from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the last meeting of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in 2020 opened in Kyiv.
