The Verkhovna Rada has registered a bill on the liquidation of religious denominations whose "authorized representatives" have committed crimes against Ukraine's national security. The corresponding bill has been published on the Ukrainian Parliament's website.
According to the text of the document, religious organizations may be liquidated by the court if representatives of the denominations have committed crimes under articles related to "war propaganda," "incitement of inter-religious discord," "terrorism," "planning, preparation, unleashing, and waging an aggressive war," "violations of the laws and customs of war," "genocide," and "mercenary activities."
According to "Glavkom," the bill was initiated and prepared by the head of the SBU, Vasyl Maliuk, and the author of the project is the head of the Rada's Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, Mykyta Poturaev.
Furthermore, Maliuk sent a letter to members of parliament urging them to vote in favor of the bill.
"We express our readiness to join and, if necessary, provide assistance in refining the proposed recommendations of the Security Service of Ukraine during their consideration by members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine," wrote the head of the SBU.
As previously reported by the UOJ, the Verkhovna Rada has collected the necessary number of votes to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
