Web: OCU hushes up the real number of its "monks"

The number of monastics is an important indicator of real church life, and the OCU prefers to keep silent about this. The was said by the authors of Telegram channel “Labarum. Sim Pobedishi”, which leveraged the official statistics taken from the summary table of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

The authors of the publication noted that they used data for 2017 – the latest available, since "the schismatics hush up the update."

Thus, according to official information, before the merger of the schismatic structures in the UOC-KP, there were 60 "monasteries", in which there were 219 "monks", "i.e. on average 3.65 'monks' per 'monastery' <...> while, for example, in the Chernivtsi region there are 3 'monks' per 4 'monasteries', in Ternopil 5 'monks' per 6 'monasteries'."

At the same time, the UAOC had 21 “monks” in 13 “monasteries” throughout the country. In the Ternopil region there are 5 "monks" per 5 "monasteries" (truly the land of hermits!), in Vinnitsa there is 1 "monastery" with “zero” monks.

“In total, in both schismatic jurisdictions, there were 240 'monks' per 73 'monasteries' in 2017, i.e. 3.29 'monks' per 1 'monastery'," specifies the tg-channel.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has 4548 monks and “208 monasteries as of 2020, or the average 21.8 monks per monastery."

These figures, noted the authors of the publication, are "an indicator of actual church life" and, in addition, also reflect the real ratio of parishioners of the canonical Church to real parishioners of the OCU as 19 to 1.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the head of the OCU Epiphany called his structure the largest religious organization in Ukraine.
