As a result of the raid by the OCU raiders on the Convent the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the UOC in Cherkasy, four people sustained serious injuries. This was reported by the head of the legal department of the Cherkasy Diocese, Archpriest Georgiy Pohranychny.
He explained that individuals in military uniforms, armed with chains and other metal objects, climbed over the fence and mercilessly beat the believers and clergy of the UOC nunnery.
Father Georgiy also stated that law enforcement officers near the monastery did not react to the beating of the faithful and pretended that nothing was happening.
"One of the priests, Father Serhiy Pashchenko, who raised his hands to cover and protect the believers from the blows, was beaten with fists in the face by individuals in military uniforms. He is now in the regional hospital in the maxillofacial surgery department. X-rays revealed a double fracture of the lower jaw," reported the diocese.
According to Father Georgiy, later, individuals in military uniforms surrounded parishioners from all sides – those who did not resist were left untouched, while those who tried to defend themselves were beaten.
"74-year-old Oleh Slobodianuk, who was also beaten by the military, had a documented dislocated arm. Deacon Serhiy Isaenko also suffered. After he tried to protect the parishioners, individuals in military uniforms struck him on the arm with metal scissors. Medics recorded a laceration on his arm. Reader Vyacheslav Korkots was struck on the head, resulting in severe contusions and a concussion recorded by medics," he added.
The Cherkasy Diocese noted that statements about the crimes committed by the OCU raiders have already been filed with the police.
