The abbot of the monastery dedicated to the Blachernae Icon of the Mother of God on the island of Corfu, Archimandrite Arsenios, along with the brotherhood, expressed their support for Metropolitan Yevlogy of Sumy and Akhtyrka. The statement was posted on the Facebook page of the Greek monastery, as reported by the Sumy Diocese.
"With sadness, we learned about the severe ordeal of Metropolitan Yevlogy of Sumy in Ukraine and the priests of this diocese, for whom an icon of our holy patron, St. Spyridon, was painted in our monastery in the past! We pray and do not cease to pray for St. Spyridon to protect our brothers and sisters who are facing criminal prosecution and to solve their problems!" the publication reads.
As the UOJ reported, Metropolitan Yevlogy of Sumy was handed a suspicion of "inciting discord". Earlier, AFU soldiers urged to stop the persecution of the Sumy hierarch.
