At a meeting of the government with the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, the head of the OCU Sergei (Epiphany) Dumenko complained to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal about the work of regional administrations, the website of the executive authorities of Ukraine reports.
Dumenko stated that there is a problem with the registration of religious communities in the country and insisted on the creation of a separate unit within the RSA to interact with religious organizations and register their statutes.
He also proposed to make appropriate changes to the Law of Ukraine "On Local State Administrations".
"All over the world, in the countries which serve as benchmarks for our state in terms of reforms, religious organizations and the way in which states interact with them are always singled out, as evidenced by special legislation. This practice should be maintained in Ukraine as well,” Dumenko said.
Earlier, the head of the Baryshivka United Territorial Community in the Brovary district of the Kyiv region refused to hand over one of the temples of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to OCU activists.
As reported by the UOJ, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine intends to consider the case of the forced renaming of the UOC, while the "Synod" of the OCU believes that the court cannot take the side of the UOC.
