On the night of March 20-21, 2024, the Transfiguration Church of the UOC in the village of Chervonohryhorivka, Nikopol district, Dnipro region, was severely damaged as a result of shelling by Russian troops of the Chervonohryhorivka territorial community. This was reported by the press service of the Kryvyi Rih diocese.
The walls and roof of the building were significantly destroyed, all the windows were smashed, the iconostasis and interior decoration were damaged.
"By the grace of God, none of the novices and parishioners of the church were injured," the statement reads.
The Transfiguration Church of the village of Chervonohryhorivka is located on a historic site where a pre-revolutionary church was located before the onset of the godless Soviet era. During the times of militant atheism, the church building was destroyed and a village club was built in its place. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the club building was transferred to the Transfiguration parish and rebuilt into a new church.
As the UOJ wrote, on March 15, in Myrnohrad, Donetsk region, a UOC church was shelled.
