Head of the UGCC Sviatoslav Shevchuk stated that the switch of Greek Catholics to the Latin Paschal cycle will only happen when "our Orthodox brothers" agree to it, reports the UGCC press service.

He mentioned that the UGCC wants to celebrate Easter together with Orthodox Christians, but there won't be any Paschal reforms among Orthodox Christians in the near future.

Therefore, when asked about the transition to the Gregorian Paschal cycle, Shevchuk responded, "Today, we are only at the beginning of this difficult journey."

"Currently, priority is given to local unity, as universal agreement cannot yet be achieved. Therefore, at the local, regional level, we have taken a step to initiate calendar reform, taking into account the ability or inability of our Orthodox brothers to follow us. We in Ukraine – Orthodox, Greek Catholics, Roman Catholics – should be the catalysts for these processes," said the head of the Greek Catholics.

As reported by the UOJ, the head of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Patriarch Bartholomew, called on Christians of both Western and Eastern rites to celebrate Easter on the same date, starting from 2025.
