Metropolitan Augustin of Bila Tserkva and Boguslav, who was previously a long-term confessor of the Union of Orthodox Brotherhoods of Ukraine and the Union of Orthodox Youth of Ukraine of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, commented for the UOJ on the emergence of the “Miriane” ("Laity") project.
“In fact, this is a certain remake of the Orthodox brotherhoods that were in Western Ukraine, in Belarus during the Uniate problem, in the 16th-17th centuries,” said the hierarch of the UOC. “It is thanks to this movement, the feat of the faithful, that Orthodoxy survived in those regions for a long time.”
Metropolitan Augustine added that he approves of the current initiative of the believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, who have decided to unite and organize their movement. At the same time, Vladyka noted that it is important that the "laity" act in harmony with the hierarchy of the Church.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the NGO "Miriane" urges UOC believers to come to the Rada to defend their rights.
