In a telephone conversation with the Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak repeated that “the Ukrainian people are looking forward to” the beatification of ex-head of the UGCC Andrey Sheptytsky.

In the conversation, which took place "in the context of developing the dialogue between Ukraine and the Holy See at the highest level," the parties noted the importance of the telephone conversation between Vladimir Zelensky and Pope Francis on June 30, the President's website reported on Thursday, July 8.

Thanking for the fact that "Ukraine is mentioned in the prayers of the Holy Father, which contributes to the restoration of peace in our state, which is very important for Ukrainians," Yermak also "raised the issue of the beatification of Metropolitan Sheptytsky, so much anticipated by the Ukrainian people."

We will remind that in a conversation with Pope Francis, Vladimir Zelensky also said that the Ukrainian people anticipate the canonization of Sheptytsky.

As reported by the UOJ, earlier the Office of the President expected Metropolitan of the UGCC Andrey Sheptytsky to be recognized as "Righteous Among the Nations". At the same time, the Yad Vashem Memorial Institute for Holocaust and Heroism recalled that Sheptytsky welcomed the Nazi occupiers, and his "course of action contributed to the entry of Ukrainians into the ranks of the murderers of Jewish families."
