On 23 July, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met in Kyiv with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, reports the Vatican News.

They discussed the outcomes of the peace summit in Switzerland as well as the President's upcoming meeting with Pope Francis.

The President thanked Pope Francis for his prayers for peace for Ukraine and his calls for the return of Ukrainian prisoners-of-war.

"This is a strong signal from the Vatican, thank you for such support. We are also grateful for your participation in the summit in Switzerland. This is a first step toward peace, and all steps are valuable. It is important that you also support this. We all understand that we need to end this path as soon as possible to avoid further loss of human lives," Zelensky said.

As reported by the UOJ, Cardinal Parolin visited the UOC Cathedral in Odesa, which was damaged by the Russian Federation.
