On August 31, a group of raiders in camouflage uniforms cut the locks and stormed the territory of the Church of Great Martyr George the Victorious of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in the village of Pryyutivka, Kirovohrad region. According to Metropolitan Boholep of Oleksandria and Svitlovodsk, who was present at the scene, the attackers used tear gas and fire extinguishers against Orthodox Christians.
The raiders barricaded themselves inside the holy site and refused to allow parishioners and clergy to enter the church.
Footage published by the Dozor_kozak1 Telegram channel shows the cynical behavior of the raiders. A fire extinguisher was used against the priest, and then a woman in camouflage began joyfully filming him with a phone camera.
Despite the church belonging to the UOC parish and ongoing court cases concerning document falsifications by activists of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), the police acted in favor of the criminals.
While believers were praying near the fence, the raiders were desecrating the church.
"Our people saw them through the windows running around the church... They were walking around with some drinks and showing disrespect towards the House of God. We don't know what will happen to our property, the antimension, and we ask for your prayers so that our holy site is not desecrated, and that such cynical and unspiritual behavior is stopped," said Metropolitan Boholep, who also requested prayers for the St. George community.
As UOJ reported earlier, Baummeister addressed the OCU noting that "the City of God cannot be taken through raiding or laws of the Verkhovna Rada."
