On September 21, Metropolitan Augustin of Bila Tserkva and Bohuslav, head of the UOC's Synodal Military Department, along with the Kyiv Eparchy clergy, conducted the funeral service for Serhii Pohrebniak, a soldier, at the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross in Podil, Kyiv, as reported by the UOC’s Information and Education Department.
The fallen soldier was the son of Serhii Pohrebniak, the director of the Foundation for the Support of Ukraine’s Defenders in honor of Righteous Petro Kalnyshevsky.
“Serhii, the soldier, defended Ukraine from Russian aggression as part of the 3rd Assault Brigade. The hero died on September 9 while carrying out a combat mission in the Luhansk region. The father of the fallen soldier, Serhii Vasylovych, buried his brother, Dmytro, a fallen soldier, just one year ago,” the statement read.
As the UOJ previously reported, believers of the Khmelnytskyi Eparchy of the UOC sent an evacuation vehicle to the frontlines.
