On September 5, 2021, the enthronement of the Montenegrin-Littoral Metropolitan Joannikije took place at the Cetinje Monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the official website of the Metropolitanate reports.
"His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia solemnly inaugurated His Eminence Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral to the throne after the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church elected him as a successor of His Beatitude Metropolitan Amfilohije at the May session of this year, the Metropolitanate's website reports.
His Beatitude Joannikije is the 41st Montenegrin-Littoral Metropolitan, who sits on the throne in the Cetinje Monastery.
According to Novosti.rs, Patriarch Porfirije and Metropolitan Joanikije arrived at the Cetinje Monastery by helicopter, as Djukanovic's supporters staged riots and blocked the roads leading to Cetinje.
The very enthronement took place in an upbeat atmosphere. Metropolitan Joannikije was enthroned with the exclamation “Axios!”. After the enthronement, the new Primate of the Metropolitanate apologized to the clergy for the disturbances that accompanied the ceremony and called everyone to unity.
“Different opinions will not be a problem if there is mutual respect,” said His Beatitude Joanikije, urging to promote goodwill instead of hatred and malice in order to feel the closeness of fraternal peace, the Montenegrin resource RTCG reports.
Let us remind you that representatives of the UOC, Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary and Metropolitan Sergius of Ternopil and Kremenets, came to the enthronement of Metropolitan Joannikije.
