On November 28, 2024, the Tivadar Lehoczky Zakarpattia Museum of Local History hosted a presentation of a unique multimedia edition of the Korolevo Gospel.
Museum visitors can now not only see this historic example of Ukrainian writing but also explore its digital version.
The Gospel was copied in 1401 by the scribe Stanislav the Grammarian at St. Michael's Church in Nyalab Castle, located in what is now the village of Korolevo, from which the manuscript takes its name.
The manuscript consists of 176 folios decorated with miniatures, ornamental headpieces, and elaborate initials. It is considered the oldest surviving handwritten book on paper produced in Zakarpattia.
The multimedia version was developed by Mykhailo Shyshkin, director of 3DCOMLAB. Thanks to his work, museum visitors can virtually turn the pages of the centuries-old manuscript, making it accessible for study without risking damage to the original.
As the UOJ previously reported, archaeologists uncovered new evidence concerning the origins of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
