Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria threatened two priests of the Russian Orthodox Church who are engaged in missionary work in Africa with canonical punishments, reports the Greek resource “Romfea”.
The priests in question are Georgy Maximov and Andrei Novikov, who with the blessing of Metropolitan Leonid lead the missionary groups of the Patriarchal Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa.
It is reported that Patriarch Theodore “for the last time” appealed to all clerics, and especially to Father Georgy and Father Andrei, with a call to respect the ecclesiastical order, the canon law of the Church and to immediately stop the parish services with the parishioners.
He accused them of violating a number of canons of the Ecumenical and Local Councils of the Church and stated that in case of non-compliance with his requirements, "the sanctions provided for by the above canons will be applied immediately".
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Metropolitan Leonid spoke about the results of the activities of the Exarchate in Africa.
