Hierarch of Alexandria demands apology from Metropolitan of Piraeus

Metropolitan Gregory of Cameroon of the Church of Alexandria demanded an apology from Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus of the Greek Orthodox Church for a publication stating that some hierarchs of the Church of Alexandria were against the recognition of the OCU, reports Ekklesia Online.

The Metropolitan of Cameroon said that the Archdiocese of Piraeus must stop insulting, contracting (a hint at the ordered publication – Ed.) the Mother Church of Constantinople and criticizing and judging decisions of the Presbyterian Patriarchates.

He compared the actions of the "Office of Heresies and Religions" of the above Metropolis with the tactics of Jehovah's Witnesses sect, whose members "isolate words and phrases from the relevance of a text, distort them and interpret them according to their own logic, presenting an inverted reality or, more popularly, white as black and day as night".

The hierarch claims that "no disagreement was expressed" by the episcopate of the Church of Alexandria regarding the recognition of the OCU. "The rest is a product of a sick fantasy…," Metropolitan Gregory of Cameroon concluded.

He urged the Metropolitan of Piraeus, " the full and exclusive responsibility for what comes out of this Office" to immediately withdraw the aforementioned text and "severely rebuke its authors".

The Metropolitan of Cameroon also believes that Bishop Seraphim should apologize to the Church of Alexandria "for the most serious what is unacceptable and false is implied through this publication, as well as the indecency to indicate to the Second Throne Patriarchate how it should proceed and act".

Earlier, the Metropolis of Piraeus has stated that many priests in Africa were against the recognition of the OCU.
