Bulgarian Patriarch: Digital consciousness is delusion

In a conversation with a journalist from Bulgarian National Television, the Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church shared his views on transhumanism ideas, which are becoming increasingly popular among young people.
“They say that soon human immortality will be achieved because a person's consciousness will be transferred to a digital medium, allowing that person to retain self-consciousness even after physical death, and we will be able to communicate with them. This is a complete misconception,” stated the Bulgarian Patriarch.
According to him, no technology can replace the human soul: "When the time comes, as determined by the Lord, and God takes the soul, the body will remain – what digital medium can replace the soul? This is impossible. This is yet another illusion."
The Patriarch emphasized the irreplaceable role of the Orthodox Church in restoring spirituality in people's lives. He noted that many young people from well-off families, despite their material comfort and good education, fall into depression and seek meaning in the "intense experiences" provided by narcotic substances.
"No one else can give meaning to a person except God," the spiritual leader emphasized, adding that among the priests of the Bulgarian Church are former IT specialists, programmers, and doctors who chose the path of priesthood, realizing the importance of spiritual matters.
Recall, according to Patriarch Daniel, Athonite monasteries no longer received the OCU representatives.
