₴9.4 mln from budget allocated for UGCC church restoration in Lviv Region

On August 20, 2025, the Slavsko settlement council of Lviv Region commissioned the restoration of the wooden Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in the village of Verkhnia Rozhanka for ₴9.40 million. This was reported in the Prozorro procurement system.

The church belongs to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC). It was built in July 1804 in the traditional Boyko style: three-sectioned, three-tiered, with a wide roof overhang and three domes topped with original crosses. Next to the church stands a two-tiered bell tower built in 1877. The building has the status of a national architectural monument, though it has not been formally entered into Ukraine’s State Register of Immovable Monuments.

The restoration is planned to be completed by the end of 2026. More than half of the allocated funds – over ₴5 million – are designated for materials. Journalists from Nashi Hroshi noted that the costs are inflated: for example, split shingles were purchased at ₴32 apiece, though the same company had charged ₴25 for them at another site. The price of wood preservatives also turned out higher than market value.

The contract went to the Lviv-based company “Rrosa,” registered in 2023. No other bidders entered the tender, so the contract was awarded without competition. Last year, the firm received almost ₴16 million in government contracts, mostly from the same customer.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the head of the Ukrainian Uniates declared that the UGCC does not belong to the structure of the Roman Catholic Church.
