Europe's main LGBTI+ event opens in Cyprus

A two-day forum to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia was launched in Cyprus on 12 May 2022, reports in-cyprus.

The Idahot+ Forum, which opened in Limassol, is considered the main annual European event "where governments and key stakeholders meet to assess progress on LGBTI+ rights and set new goals".

Co-hosted by the governments of Cyprus and the UK with the support of the Council of Europe, the event aims to strengthen European cooperation on equality policies for LGBT people and discuss collective action to promote LGBT rights across Europe.

The agenda of the forum includes an examination of the impact of the war in Ukraine on the LGBTI+ community in Europe. The roles of different sectors in ending conversion therapy, the benefits of LGBT+ inclusion in businesses and ways to tackle gender attacks are also on the forum’s agenda.

During the forum, there will be a screening of “The Hunt”, the first Cypriot short film which, according to media reports, "deals with homophobia and patriarchy".

As reported, in Greece parents were forbidden to interfere with the orientation of LGBT children.
